Earth Temple

Enter Headstone without Power Bracelets

See the Early Earth God's Lyric page.

Note: Beating Jalhalla requires Power Bracelets, so this is only useful in order to learn the song early for routing purposes.

Early Earth Temple

It is possible to skip the song stone blocking the entrance to the Earth Temple, and enter the Earth Temple early. However, in doing so, Medli will not spawn inside the Temple, because you need to drop her into the loading zone or break the song stone for her to appear inside the dungeon. Beating the temple without Medli is however possible if you have the Tingle Tuner, and all the pieces of that puzzle can be found on this page. Doing this trick skips learning the Earth God's Lyric, teaching the song to Medli, but also, combined with other tricks and glitches, allows for skipping Hyrule 2 (since the Tetra to Zelda transformation cutscenes is required to spawn Medli on the overworld, but Medli can be skipped using this trick).

With a Bomb Push Clip

Discovered by bowserisbored

Setup 1 (Faster)

It is possible to clip through a seam to enter the Earth Temple early without the help of Medli. To do so, you must stand at a precise position : you must be against the wall at Z = 2021.16077 with a facing angle between 51680 and 51695. Drop the bomb on animation frame 9 to clip through, then leaf to the loading zone. To do so in a run, follow the setup below.

  • Enter the loading zone with a full speed roll
  • turnaround
  • roll
  • 3 vertical slash combo (N, R, R)
  • 3 vertical slash combo (N, R, R) + spin
  • vertical slash hold R
  • turnaround
  • crawl 2x
  • turnaround
  • roll
  • ess right
  • crawl
  • roll

Then perform the bomb push clip by dropping the bomb on the right frame.

Setup 2 (Slower)

  • Enter the loading zone with a full speed roll
  • turnaround
  • vertical slash + quickspin 2x
  • roll
  • crawl double tap R 6x
  • roll
  • turnaround
  • vertical slash
  • crawl
  • turnaround
  • blow leaf 3x
  • ess left
  • crawl
  • roll

Then perform the bomb push clip by dropping the bomb on the right frame.

With Early Hookshot

If you have the Hookshot early (using File Item Transfer or Salvage Item Manipulation), it is possible to perform a L-Slide Clip to enter the Earth Temple early. The video below enters Wind Temple early but the clip is the exact same for the Earth Temple.

Skip Using the Command Melody in the First Room

Note that this trick requires at least 3/4 of a full magic meter to perform. After flying to the first switch in the first room. Place Medli on it and then jump off to the right and do three to four Leaf Pumps to make it as Link to the other switch. After pressing it down, do three to four leaf pumps back to the first switch to grab Medli.

Skip Using Medli in the First Room

Discovered by Chaotic_Ace

Activate the Tingle Tuner and using Ice Arrows, freeze a Moblin. Using a Tingle Balloon you can then carry the frozen moblin through the air and place it into one of the switches. Then you only need to press the 2nd switch. This skips having to use Medli in that room.

Skip Using the Command Melody in Chu Room

Discovered by TSA

Place Medli in the center of the ray of light and kill all of the red and green chus. Go back to Medli and walk around her in circles until all of the purple chus have turned to stone. Note that you don't need Medli if you lure the blue chus into the light, but that is much slower.

Get to the Mirror Shield Room Early (Requires Tingle Tuner)

Once you have defeated the chus in the previously mentioned room, use Medli to reveal the chest. Now get dry storage off of one of the pillars in the room and get chest storage. After opening the chest with storage, your screen will turn black, except for a few key features such as Link and Medli's eyes and the ring of light. Using these features, along with your mini-map, pick-up Medli and navigate your way to the Statue room. Note: It is very important that you reveal the chest before you get dry storage, otherwise you will store the cutscene that reveals the chest, and will be unable to open it until you in some way reset the dungeon (such as dying or saving and quitting).

Once you're in the statue room, use Medli to glide over to the statue's left (your right) arm. After you have landed on it, you can drop Medli and maneuver yourself up to the statue's elbow. Wait for the effects of the purple mist to wear-off (if they have not done so already), and use a jumpslash to get on the statue's earring and then another to get onto its head. Sidehop onto the crest on top of the head and then glide over to the ledge with the door. Getting on the crest is not necessary to reach the upper ledge, however it does eliminate the need for leaf pumping--saving some magic.

If you have not done so already, call Tingle and reduce your health to 1/4th heart before entering the next room. It's crucial that you lower your health before entering the next room as it will interfere with the following set-up if you do not. Enter the next room, C-Up and align the right side of the B-Button with the black corner line on the wall. Turn around, sidehop left, jumpslash, backlfip, lay down a Bomb, slash it without L-Target and start the zombie hover.

If your followed the above set-up correctly, the edge of the door frame will help to clip you out-of-bounds. As you are hovering, put a blue ting on B on the Tingle Tuner. Once you have gained significant height, cue the ting and mash the deku leaf right before you get healed. Note: There is a good degree of timing as to when you start mashing the deku leaf. If you begin mashing too early you will exhaust you magic meter and may lose too much height before the ting heals you. If you start mashing too late the ting will heal you before you can get the leaf pulled out and you will jumpslash into the void. This is partially why you are selecting a blue ting--so as to refill both you health and your magic.

After you've pulled out the deku leaf, glide over to the loading zone that leads to the mirror shield room (you may have to use a few leaf pumps to reach it). Note: Once you have obtained the mirror shield you must save-warp to return to the beginning of the dungeon, otherwise you are trapped as you never defeated the enemies to lower the wall in the chronologically preceding room.

This following video shows the Setup that is used for the zombie hover:

Fly to Skull Hammer Peg

Discovered by Unreal

While holding Medli, jump off the ledge on the left of the entrance door into the statue room. Fly with Medli until you are just in front of the switch, let go of Medli, and use the skull hammer to skip the fog.

Aiming Beams of Light Accurately

Normally when you must aim a beam of light at a statue, chest, etc., you must be able to hold the light at the target for a while in order to ensure that the object is melted, or the switch is activated. An easy way to do this is to pull out your sword and stand in the beam of light. While shield go into first person perspective, C-up, and you can then aim the light much easier.

Get the First Small Key without Command Melody

Discovered by Chimpas

After making light appear in the room, pick up Medli and place her in between the light and the invisible chest. Call Medli and slowly backwalk. While Medli is walking towards you, her instrument will shine light towards the chest, and if you did it correctly it will reveal the chest. Because Medli always tries to talk to you before you attempt this trick, and because it takes a while to setup, this is generally only useful as a Command Melody skip and not as a speed strat.

Skip Placing Chu on Switch

Method 1

Discovered by Kazooie

In the room with the two switches and the staircase, pickup Medli and head over up onto the second platform on the right. Angle yourself towards the ledge. Jump off and fly about halfway with Medli, then drop her and glide the rest of the way to the ledge with the deku leaf and grab it. From here, use the Command Melody and fly Medli up to you.

Method 2

Discovered by Venick409

Place Medli on the back switch, then jump onto the front switch to lower the staircase. Immediately after the cutscene, sidehop to the right continuously, until you land on the first step of the raising stairs. From here, use the Command Melody to fly Medli over to you.

Method 3

Discovered by Unreal

Similarly to Method 1, pickup Medli and head over to the same ledge on the right and angle yourself with the top of the staircase ledge. Throw Medli, and if you aligned yourself properly, she should land on top of the staircase. Now angle yourself towards the staircase again and pull out a bomb. As the flashing speed increases, jump off of the ledge and pull out the deku leaf to damage boost to the ledge. Unlike Methods 1 and 2, Medli is already on the upper ledge, skipping you having to play the Command Melody or having to go back down after pushing the block.

Skip Using the Command Melody in the Block Room

Discovered by Chimpas

In the room with the blocks and the floor master, push the first block into the indention on the floor to open the skylight. Pickup Medli and align facing the breakable wall, between it and the spot of light. Now place Medli and 'call' her. Walk away from the wall and the light will reflect off Medli's harp and reveal the block.

Fight Skip and 1F Small Key Skip

After shining light onto the right elephant statue to destroy it, in the double moblin/poe fight room, you can climb onto the ledge partially inside the wall in the spot the statue was in previously, in order to perform a roll clip to go OoB. If you perform your roll clip directly to your right, you will land in bounds past the staircase, successfully skipping the fight.

However, you can also start gliding with the leaf once OoB and maneuver your way behind the door leading to the ReDead Crypt. Land behind the door and then jump OoB again. From there you can leaf behind the miniboss room into the loading zone, also skipping a small key.

This small key skip is usually slower than fighting the moblins and poes normally and getting the small key with the boomerang, and it also uses a lot of magic, making the miniboss skip much harder. It should only be considered if you don't have the boomerang. Note also that by doing this skip, the staircase won't have fallen down after leaving the miniboss room, meaning savewarping is the only way to escape this place.

Small Key Timesaver

Method 1

Discovered by Chimpas, Unreal

Backup towards the ledge, so that your back is facing the sarcophagus. Backflip towards the sarcophagus, and pull out the deku leaf to glide back to the higher platform. This should have disturbed the sarcophagus and revealed the key. Simply use the boomerang to bring the key to you.

Method 2

Discovered by YautjaElder

Jump off the ledge and glide to the top of the coffin with the key. You will want to make sure to glide at it from a far enough distance away so that the coffin begins to rattle before you land on top (otherwise it will knock you off). Now glide back to the ledge and boomerang the key.

Skip Triple Stalfos Fight

Method 1

Discovered by Klydestorm

Climb on top of one of the stalfo's coffins (either one will work), then use leaf pumping to glide over to and grab the mirror shield ledge. Once you've gotten the mirror shield, the same hole will open in the ceiling as would normally happen if you defeated the stalfos, and you can shine light onto the symbol above the door to leave the room. Note that you can only grab the DARKER part of the ledge, not the lighter part.

Method 2

Alternatively, you can perform a damage boost to get onto that higher ledge using a bomb and the leaf.

Break Wall without Command Melody

In the room before the that of the mini-boss, there is a wall on the left of the room (by the latter) that can be broken by shining light on it. However it can be broken without having to call Medli over and reflect light from her harp. Stand in the column of light as close as you can to the ledge while still being in the light. Reflect the light with your shield and while still holding R go into C-up (see Aiming Beams of Light Accurately. Now just look down to break the wall.

This trick is especially useful to get back to the statue room quickly and setting up for the following trick.

Skip Shining Light on Statue's Eyes

Method 1 - With or without Medli - From the bottom (Chest Storage)

Following the current PST Earth Temple route (following the save-warp after you've obtained the mirror shield early with the Tuner) return to the chu room. You will notice that even though you opened the chest, it still appears as unopened and can be opened again (click here for more information on chest storage and how it works). Exploiting this fact, you can preform dry storage again and once again get chest storage off of that treasure chest.

To skip the statue with Medli, return to the statue room and pick her up (she should be right next to the door). Once again, use her to glide to the statue's left arm. However this time, once you've landed, do not drop Medli. Walk onto the statue's back and exploit the collision-effects of chest storage to drop her through the wall. Now strafe against the wall towards the edge of the statue until you grab it. Once you pull yourself up you should ledge clip through the wall and fall down to Medli.

Of course, this same skip can also be done without Medli if you ignore the steps involving her: climb the statue with chest storage and perform the same ledge clip as explained above.

Method 2 - Without Medli - From the bottom (Door Storage)

You can also skip the Statue without Medli using Door Storage. In the Chu Room, get Storage and store the door leading to the statue room. Then open the door leading to the first room. This will load both rooms at once and unload the room you're in, while also teleporting you in the middle of the 2 doors you open. Since you are OoB, you can simply glide behind the statue and open the door leading to the first song stone.

Method 3 - With Medli - From the top (Ledge Clip)

Discovered by Paraxade

On the upper ledge in the statue room, place Medli near the wall and the ledge. Backflip, and use the deku leaf to ledge clip OoB. Pull yourself back up onto the ledge and now pickup Medli. From here, you can sidehop behind the statue and proceed.

Method 4 - With Medli - From the bottom (Roll Clip)

It is also possible to get past the statue with Medli from the bottom of the room and without chest storage. To do so, first you should place Medli next to one of the doors in either side of the room. Then, using one of the spots in either side of the room where the wall does a 90° turn, you can backflip, use leaf, and cancel leaf to grab the ledge partially inside tha wall, and roll clip OoB. Then you can glide towards the door you placed Medli next to and land behind it. Then, grab Medli through the door and throw her OoB. Use the Command Melody to control her and make her fly behind the statue, to the door that leads into the basement. Once this is done, you can cancel out of Medli and use the leaf to glide OoB behind the statue.

Method 5 - Without Medli (Roll Clip)

If you don't care about going into the basement without Medli, then you can perform one of the clips above but skipping through the Medli steps. However there are also alternate ways to skip the statues that open up for you. You can for exemple perform a grab roll clip on the back of the statue.

First Song Stone Skip

Method 1 - Chest Storage

Walk over to the edge on the right side of the song stone with chest storage, and strafe into the wall and grab the ledge so that you'll ledge clip once you pull yourself up. Roll clip and immediately pull out the deku leaf and with a few leaf pumps, glide behind the stone.

Method 2 - Door Storage

Store the song stone text, and open the door back to the hub room. Close the textbox as the door opens to keep both rooms loaded at once. Step into the hub room to avoid a voidout later, and go back to the basement room. Walk back near the song stone, to the platform after the bridge. This will unload the hub room. Go back to the door then leaf to get behind the song stone and open the door. This skips the song stone.

The tingle tuner will normally be unable to be used after storing the door. However, if you perform a jumpslash in the main room when you step in it, you can make the tuner load the map of the upper floor of that room. This will allow you to use a tingle balloon at the end, instead of leafing all the way.

Method 3 - Door Storage from Hub Room

Discovered by Glitches0and0stuff

This method requires the Staircase in the Statue room to have been lowered. In the Statue Room, get Storage and store the door leading to the Song Stone Room. Then open the door leading to the Chu Room. This will load both rooms at the same time and unload the Statue Room. It will also teleport you in the middle of the unloaded Statue Room. Immediately pull out the deku leaf. Leaf pump and land OoB on the door frame of the Song Stone Room. Then jump OoB again and go behind the song stone.

Skip Mirror Shield in B1 locked door room

Make sure to have chest storage. Jump and leaf pump to the left pillar. Then get a good jump and leaf pump to the left curtain. You can stand thanks to the alcove behind the curtain even if you didn't burn it. Then perform a chest storage ledge clip on the right side. You can now either leaf or tingle balloon OoB to get behind the right elephant statue, and open the door from behind. This skips the mirror shield or command melody requirement in the basement.

B1 Small Key Skip

Method 1 - Chest Storage

After breaking getting past the last song stone, proceed to the next room and melt the statue on the left. Go to this room and exploit chest storage to walk half-way in the wall so as to not touch the purple mist. Once you get near the edge on the opposite end of the pit, use a jumpslash to get up on it. Depending on the angle you use you may accidentally touch the purple mist.

Use two more jumpslashed to get up onto the ledge with the skull hammer peg. Walk over to the edge, and strafe into the wall and grab the ledge so that you'll ledge clip once you pull yourself up. Immediately pull out the deku leaf once you do to glide to the second statue room.

Method 2 - Roll Clip

Discovered by gymnast86

It is also possible to skip the small key in the second half of Earth Temple without chest storage. To do this, first you must place Medli next to the gate that separates the two rooms with the Giant mirror and the last big elephant statue (only if you want Medli for the rest of the dungeon). Now shoot the rightmost red flag that blocks a small alcove with a joy pendant in it. Use the Leaf to fly to this alcove and grab the right most edge, from here do a Roll Clip to the right and use the leaf again to fly back in bounds in between the collision of the gate. Now pick up Medli and take her through to the other side of the room with you.

Method 3 - Bomb Roll Clip

Alternatively you can also use a Bomb Roll Clip on the right or left side of the ledge in front of the gate to get OoB and skip the small key.

Last Elephant Statue Strategy

Discovered by bowserisbored

By leafing into the light, your back facing the elephant statue, it is possible to break the last elephant statue without Medli and without playing the Command Melody. This is the fastest way to break it for bug limit speedruns.

Skip the Last Elephant Statue Room

Discovered by Paraxade

You need to have chest storage to skip this statue. With chest storage, run over and use either a jumpslash or the deku leaf to get on the pillar on the right side of the room. Again, strafe into the wall while grabbing the ledge so that you'll clip out-of-bounds. From here, use the deku leaf to glide behind the statue and through the door frame, then proceed to the coffin room.

You can also get through this elephant statue without breaking it with Medli using chest storage. To do so, first place Medli inside the statue, do the clip mentionned above to get behind the statue. Then play the Command Melody to take control of Medli inside the statue and make her go towards you. Then you can pick her up and progress to the next room.

Note: You must glide through the side of the door frame for the door to remain non-solid. If you try to come at it from behind the door it may solidify--causing you to fall into the void.

Second Song Stone Skip

Once in the coffin room, head over to the song stone and walk part-way up it (making sure not to go to high, or you'll get squished by the ceiling and loose the effects of chest storage). Jump off and glide to the top of the nearest coffin on your left. Once again, use strafing to clip out-of-bounds, and then glide through the door frame behind the song stone to proceed.

You can see the trick at around the 1 minute mark in this video:

Mirror Room Half Skip

Discovered by Kazooie, Chimpas

Upon entering the Mirror Room, throw Medli onto the higher ledge, and jump down to the mirror on the right. Push the Mirror into the slot in the ground, and use the Command Melody to fly Medli over to the switch. After the switch has been activated, fly Medli over on top of the mirror you just pushed, and aim light into the statue's left (your right) eye. Once you've got the light in the statue's eye, cancel control of Medli, and roll over to the platform in front of the mirror and get onto it. Staying on the bottom level, angle yourself slightly with the meltable wall and use your shield to shine light onto in. Once the wall is melted, push/pull the next mirror into place. Now get back on the previous platform and melt the statue. Push/Pull this mirror, just slightly off from being in the slot in the floor so that it shines light onto the other mirror. Now head over to the platform on the right of the statue and shine light into it's other eye.

This method completely skips pushing any mirror on the left side of the room.

Mirror Room Full Skip

Press the Mirror Room Switch without the Command Melody

Discovered by KryptekSR, leaf pumping method by JarheadHME

It is possible to press the switch in the mirror room using Medli's by gliding over with her to the snake-looking pillar and then gliding to the ledge with the leaf.

The same result is also achievable without Medli using tons of leaf pumps.

Note that this is only useful as a Command Melody Skip and not as a speed strat.

Skip the Mirror Room - Early Stalfos Crypt

By performing a ledge clip on the left side of the room upone entering, you can clip OoB. You can then glide backwards with the leaf past the wall blocking the access to the door leading to the Triple Stalfos Crypt, that contains Treasure Chart 12.

Note: After performing this trick, you will be stuck in that room and will have to savewarp out. Because getting chest storage in order to skip the boss key alltogether saves a lot of time, 100% speedruns usually come back for that chart once the dungeon has been defeated. However, once the dungeon has been defeated, the mirror room is automatically lit, which means the door is immediately accessible, making this trick useless.

Skip the Mirror Room - Early Boss Key

Method 1

Stand in front of the statue and the stairs preventing the access to the boss key room. Look on the side, perform a backflip and pull out the leaf to glide towards the ledge. Perform a frame perfect roll clip to go out of bounds. From there, you can leaf to get behind the door and open it. Be careful, as the stairs will try to push you back in bounds.

Method 2

Discovered by Klydestorm

Once you enter the mirror room, head over to the right ledge. Using either Medli or a bomb, ledge clip OoB. Just as you clip OoB, hold L and turn Link so that he is facing away from the ledge he used to clip. Now use leaf pumping to get underneath the ground by the far door. If you continue holding L while leaf pumping, you'll have a much easier camera angle to deal with. Once you get back in bounds by the door, side walk, keeping close to the wall in front of you (you want to be careful not to clip too far into the barriers behind you. Now open the door and proceed.

Boss Key Skip

Method 1 - Chest Storage

If you have chest storage, you can simply jump through the door on the left side of the room. Simply roll up the spiked portion on the left side of the boss door frame to jump OoB and use the deku leaf to reach the loading zone. Note: Trying to roll on the smooth part of the door frame will not allow Link to clip. Beware, the method is different on JP compared to NTSC or PAL.

NTSC/PAL:

JP:

Method 2 - Torch Roll Clip

Get on top of the torch by the boss door either using leaf pumps or a Tingle Balloon, and perform a roll clip to leaf to the loading zone.

Method 3 - Bomb Roll Clip

Perform a bomb roll clip near the warp pot and glide to the loading zone. A few leaf pumps are needed.

Method 4 - Ledge Clip and Glide directly to Loading Zone

Perfom a ledge clip near the warp pot, then use leaf pumping to get under the loading zone and then use a jumpslash to reach it. This requires near perfect leaf pumping, as well as the double magic meter, as if you lose any height while gliding over you probably won't make it. Note: If you have access to the Tingle Tuner, you can use green Tings to refill your magic meter so that you do not need the double magic meter.

You can alternatively use a Tingle Bomb just as you get under the loading zone to boost you in. The height requirement on this is slightly more forgiving, but still quite strict on leaf pumping.

Method 5 - Ledge Clip and Glide to OoB Collision

If you are planning Not to glide directly to the loading zone there is a small patch of OoB ground at the base of the stairs leading to the boss door. From there, you can:

  • Leaf pump to the small patch of ground, queue a Tingle Balloon, and then run under the loading zone and use a jumpslash to reach it.
  • Leaf pump to the small patch of ground, throw a bomb towards the door so that it lands in bounds, and use the deku leaf to blow it closer to the boss door. Then glide under the loading zone and let the bomb explosion boost you into the loading zone.
  • Leaf pump to the small patch of ground and walk towards the in bounds region so you are partway in the wall. Play the Command Melody and fly Medli over to you. Pick her up while still OoB and position yourself so the tips of Link's feet are just touching the edge of the invisible ledge (you can use the camera and Link's shadow to find this edge). Now try to make sure you do a small jump off the ground towards the loading zone. If the angle is correct and the jump is small enough Medli will fly you right under the loading zone. Now, to get in, take out your leaf and you will be pulled into the loading zone.

Method 6 - Ledge Clip and Hover

Discovered by Klydestorm

Call tingle and deminish your health to 1/2 heart. Ledge clip using Medli or a bomb and deku leaf above the bottom door. Fall and align yourself at a slight angle so that when you die by bomb you don't get pushed in bounds. Zombie hover and use a red Ting to heal yourself once you are above the level of the loading zone. Just before Tingle heals you, switch from mashing B to the Deku Leaf and glide to the loading zone.
