Fuse Entanglement

Originally discovered by Physioninja on May 26th 2023

Fuse Entanglement is a glitch whereby an object acts as though it is fused to Link's shield, despite being able to be interacted with and not visually being fused. It is most often used in the context of Pocket Rocket (see below), however it can also be used for other tricks such as Fuse Entanglement Duplication (also see below).

Setting up FE

  1. Have an item in the world Link can fuse to a shield and have Fuse active.
  2. Hold L to open the ability menu, and a frame or two before it opens press ZL. If done correctly, the item should appear on Link's back without the fuse sound effect playing.
  3. Let go of L and press Dpad-left quickly afterwards to open the shield menu. If you timed the ZL press right, the shield should not appear to have the item you are using FE on attached. Swap shields and let go of Dpad-left, and the item should drop to the ground behind Link. Now that FE has been set up, it is possible to perform the previously mentioned glitches.

Notes on timing

If you go too early, the Fuse sound effect will play and the shield will have the item attached. Going too late will miss the press and nothing will happen. Because of this, it's best to time the ZL press late, so that failing gives you a chance to try again.

Pocket Rocket

Pocket Rocket is an application of FE where we can gain speed and height. It's heavily used in many speedrun categories that are able to use this since it's by far the fastest movement method.

Instructions

  1. FE a rocket.
  2. Fuse the rocket to a weapon.
  3. Jump, hold ZL and A, and mash B to begin rocket pumping.

Notes

This consumes rocket duarbility on every "pump" (every time Link resets his shield jump) which will eventually cause the shield to run out of durability and break, so be careful when considering what shields to use in a run. On 1.0, the rocket on the weapon will stay active constantly and never be consumed. This is not the case on 1.1.x and if you leave the rocket out for too long it will be consumed and you will have to set up Pocket Rocket once again.

Fuse Entanglement Duplication (FED)

FED allows us to transmutate one piece of equipment (weapons, bows, or shields) into another. it requires two items, a donor item and a target item.

Instructions

  1. Drop the donor item and the target item on the ground
  2. FE the donor item (make sure you have no bow equipped after the FE)
  3. Pick up the donor item from the ground.
  4. Pause and remove the fused material from the shield (this causes a desync by removing the bow from Link's back)
  5. Pick up the target item, pause, and drop the donor item.
  6. If done correctly, the item dropped will be the target item

Notes

There are other ways of performing the desync, but in most cases it's easiest to simply delete the fuse.
