Early Light Pillar
───────── How To ─────────
Description
Early Light Pillars is a glitch using BiT that allows you to open one of the light pillars on a file early. There are two methods to perform it: either by starting your file right before the story flag for the light pillar gets set (see method 1), or by Reverse BiTWarping to the light pillar cutscene with the target file saved at a save prompt (see method 2).
Setup
You need your files to be set up in the following manner (the slot numbers do not matter):
- File 1: Tablet File - See requirements below
- File 2: Target File - No requirement for Method 1. Must be saved at a save prompt/be a new game file for Method 2.
The Tablet File must have the requirements for placing the tablet satisfied.
- For Early Faron Light Pillar, this means you either need no tablet obtained at all or only the Emerald Tablet. You indeed surprisingly don't need to have the emerald tablet in your inventory to place it in the pedestal. In this case your Target File could also very well be your Tablet File.
- For Early Eldin Light Pillar, you will need to have obtained the Ruby Tablet but NOT the Amber Tablet
- For Early Lanayru Light Pillar, you will need to have obtained the Amber Tablet
Note that whether or not the Tablet file already placed the tablet does not matter at all.
───────── Methods ─────────
Method 1 - With Story Flag RBM
Discovered by gymnast86
First, activate BiT. Then do the following:
- With the Tablet File selected, obtain a Stamina Fruit or Rupee. This will load the tablet from that file into BiT. (This is not necessary for Early Faron Light Pillar)
- Enter the Goddess Statue while still in BiT. Usually you would want to enter with a file that does not trigger a Fi text inside the Statue, such as a file that hasn't placed the Ruby or Amber Tablet yet.
- Use a Skyward Strike or use BiTMagic to raise the tablet pedestal
- Run up to the pedestal; you should have the option of placing a tablet.
- Place the tablet. Wait for the light pillar cutscene. Right after the light pillar appears, wait for the camera change. Start your Target File around one second after the camera angle change.
If everything worked correctly, you will load your target file where it was last saved. However the story flag for the light pillar will be set, meaning you can now go to it.
This specific trick and method is crucial to the Faron Back in Time technique.
Method 2 - With Reverse BiTWarp
- Place the tablet with your Target File selected. About two seconds after he stops placing it in, Start your Target File to Reverse BiTWarp into the light pillar cutscene.
If everything works correctly, BiT will end, the tablet placing cutscene will play, and your Target File will be properly loaded. The light pillar associated to the tablet you placed will now be open on the Target File as well.
─────── Consequences ───────
Caveats and Possible Failures
There are a few things that can go wrong with this glitch:
- If the tablet pedestal does not open after skyward striking the pedestal, that means the file you had selected when the pedestal was supposed to rise already has the flag for the tablet pedestal to rise. In this case you should BiTMagic the tablet pedestal to rise up to save time.
- If you are placed in Skyloft nearby the Light Tower when using the Reverse BiTWarp method, then that means your Target File wasn't saved at a Save Prompt.
- If BiT is still active when the Target File is loaded, or if you end up out of bounds inside the Goddess Statue, then you started the file too late.
- If the Target File is loaded normally with no effects, then you started the file too early.
Even if the glitch works correctly, there are a few effects to be aware of:
- Performing Lanayru Early and then attempting to place any other tablet will crash the game.
- Performing Eldin Early and placing the Emerald Tablet will not crash the game.
- Performing Eldin Early before beating Skyview Temple puts Eldin in layer 0; see below.
- Performing Lanayru Early, on the other hand, loads Lanayru's initial state normally; however, it sets Eldin's state to a post-Earth Temple state (layer 2), making the Digging Mitts unobtainable.
- Performing either early pillar before landing in Faron, and then attempting to land in either Lanayru or Eldin, will automatically land you in Faron. In other words, the first time you land on the surface you ALWAYS land in Faron. This makes it possible to land in Faron without the green light pillar active.
Eldin Zero
Similar to Skyview Zero, Eldin Zero is a partially loaded state which only exists when it is loaded before beating Skyview Temple through the Early Light Pillar trick. Most parts of Eldin are properly loaded, with some exceptions:
- Many enemies are missing.
- The rocks holding the lava in around the Mogma Turf entrance are missing, making it impossible to drain the lava.
- If the Mogma Turf is entered via the BiTWarp, none of the Mogmas or Bokoblins are loaded, making it impossible to get the Digging Mitts.
- The first time landing in Eldin cutscene will not play. This cutscene is the trigger for opening the statue selection screen when entering the Eldin pillar. Thus, while you can interact with Bird Statues as normal, you will not be able to land at them should you revisit Eldin. That cutscene is also the trigger for being able to get the heart dowsing ability, making it unobtainable without it.
While it is possible to maneuver around in Eldin Zero thanks by using various Reverse BiTMagic tricks, and reach the Scaldera fight in Earth Temple, the Scaldera boss room will be in layer 0 as well, and the door leading to the Earth Temple Spring will be unloaded and you cannot access it.
You can "fix" Eldin to its usual initial state by clearing Skyview Temple.
