See the Early Wind God's Aria page.
Note: The Iron Boots are required to get past the tall room with the iron boots switch on top in the basement of Wind Temple. As such, this is only useful for routing purposes, or to skip the Skull Hammer in a low% speedrun.
If you have the Hookshot early (using File Item Transfer or Salvage Item Manipulation), it is possible to perform a L-Slide Clip to enter the Wind Temple early.
This should only be used to skip the cutscene of breaking the Song Stone with Makar. Contrarely to Medli in the Earth Temple, Makar is required inside the Wind Temple. After performing this clip, pick up Makar and drop him manually into the loading zone to make him appear inside the dungeon.
Entering the dungeon early can also be done with the same bomb push clip as Early Earth Temple, as the room is exactly the same.
Pick up Makar right as he gets damaged by a bomb. This will interrupt his damage animation. You can now throw Makar to the other side without playing the Command Melody. To get Link to the other side, either use a Tingle Balloon or a Spring Jump Storage. A good audio cue for this trick is inputting the A press on the frame after the bomb audibly explodes when pause buffering.
First, get Makar to go in the 2nd room of the dungeon, then leave and re-enter the Wind Temple. There will be an invisible Makar that you can lift in the initial room. Pick him up and Makar will teleport to you. Go to the 2nd room, use a Tingle Balloon and line up precisely in mid-air. Put down Makar to teleport accross the room with him and skip the Command Melody. This trick is called a Makar Teleport.
You can skip using the deku leaf in the first room by performing a Spring Jump Storage.
Once you've done this, you can also skip the deku leaf in the 2nd room but only if you are playing on NTSC or PAL. To do so, play the Command Melody and make Makar fly above the wall and to the other side of the gate. Then make him step on one of the switches that will flip the gate. This is not possible on JP because those switches are not there, they were added for the international release.
With a 2-frame window savewarp you can skip the Makar kidnapping. This saves a few seconds in bug limit.
It is also possible to skip the Makar kidnapping by voiding out during that 2 frame window.
In the room with Makar's cage, you can gain early access to the warp jar by shooting it with a Fire Arrow to skip some rooms. To setup the position, do two sidehops to the left after entering the room. Then line up the fire arrow and shoot it. Use the warp jar in the first room of the dungeon to get up onto the ledge.
In the room immediately after Makar's capture (the one with the WGA stone & spinners), go down to the first spinner. Immediately after using your deku leaf, backflip. You should hit the spinning wall as it's swinging upwards, taking you with it. Using this technique, you don't need iron boots for this room.
Another way to skip the iron boots is to use the early warp pot technique, and go through the rooms backward to access the Song Stone Room from the other door
With the altered collision from chest storage, you can climb ontop of the song stone and clip through it. Once OoB, you can simply leaf behind the Song Stone and open the door leading to the room with the boss key. If you have the hookshot, you can also hookshot the big key chest through the gate thanks to chest storage, skipping the triple darknut fight. After performing this trick, you must savewarp out to escape, since leaving the room normally will softlock since Link would get stuck because of the Song Stone still being there.
To start, position yourself on the turning floor panel so that the wind from the Leaf will barely hit the weather vane on the opposite side. Now blow wind using the Leaf and immediately roll backwards on the floor panel. Then do another roll angled up and to the left of the floor panel. Link will jump off when the panel gets too steep and from here pull out the Leaf. Hold L to target and Up-Left until facing the pillar on the right side of the room, all the while doing Leaf Pumps until you're close enough to the pillar to grab it. After you get on top of the pillar, shoot peahats if they're in the way, fly to the door frame on the right and Roll Clip through it. Now Leaf around to the back of the door behind the song stone and land on the sliver of ground behind the stone. Then turn around, and open the door to get into the room with the boss key.
In the Many Cyclones Room, you can skip doing the entire room by jumping down and rolling towards the very last cyclone. By backflipping onto the cyclone and pulling out the leaf, you can rise using the cyclone and access the door, skipping every other cyclones and the switch.
By grabbing the edge of the right side on any door frame in Wind Temple (with the exception of the Boss Door) you can simply do a Roll Clip due to how far in the wall Link is when he climbs up. This is useful for skipping the key required to obtain the hookshot. The fastest door to use to clip OoB is simply the door leading to the miniboss. But you can also use one of the doors on 1F to also skip the 1st fan, which requires iron boots.
With chest storage, you can walk backwards into the right side of any Wind Temple doors to clip through it. This can be used to access the miniboss early.
If you've opened the first fan cage, jump down to the highest platform on the right. Kill any peahats that may interfere, place a bomb, and ledge clip OoB. Note that in order to clip, you must press the control stick away from the wall as soon as you re-grab the ledge (review video for reference). Immediately after Link slides through the wall, drop down onto the lower ledge. Now simply glide to the hookshot room and you will hit the loading zone.
In the room where Makar's cage is located, it is also possible to clip through the walls and bypass the fan cage using a ledge clip. You can either use:
Either way, align yourself with the ledge you have chosen and hover to it. Backwalk so that Link grabs the ledge, move as close to the wall as possible, and then pull yourself up. Now use a bomb to ledge clip OoB. From here, glide to the mini-boss room loading zone. (Note: If you are using the first ledge, after you clip you will have to wind waker dive using a bomb to push you in order to bypass the death trigger so you can reach the loading zone.)
You can leave the miniboss room faster by storing the chest containing the hookshot. With chest storage, you can clip through the wind temple door to hit the loading zone early. This skips having to hit the hammer peg, saving a few seconds.
Get into one of the corners near the spikes and place a bomb--it doesn't matter if it is in front of, or behind you. Wait until just before the bomb explodes and use a damage boost to reach the spike ledge. (If you placed the bomb in front of yourself you will need to jumpslash a second or two sooner.) This will give you temporary damage invincibility as well, allowing you to then skip past the spikes and get to the chest.
By backflipping, pulling out leaf and cancelling the leaf at the right time, it is possible to grab the ledge and climb up where the spikes are, but the spikes will usually immediately knock you back down. However, by doing so inbetween 2 spikes, you can climb up without being knocked down. To get accross the spikes, you only have to pull out your sword and jumplsash
By breaking each floor panel by equipping iron boots while standing at the very edge of each panel, you can avoid falling into the basement and having to fight your way up by either performing a stab, or by grabbing the ledge by holding up on the control stick. Note that there is no time to do a stab after breaking the very last panel, due to the cutscene of the chest appearing playing. Instead, you can break the floor right as a bomb explodes in order to be damage boosted and avoid falling down.
With the fan opened, it is possible to precisely throw Makar directly from his jail cell to either the right or left door, skipping having to play the command melody to get him up there.
Pull out sword while opening the door and hold target all the way. Don't move right away, otherwise the middle armos on the 2nd row will notice you and everything will fall apart. Then perform 2 jumpslash quickspins to get rid of the first 4 armos, then sneak behind the middle armos and slash him, then quickspin the last 2.
With chest storage, you can walk backwards into the right side of any Wind Temple doors to clip through it. This can be used to clip OoB and maneuver with the leaf under the fan cage.
After you have obtained the small key above and the hookshot, head over to the right of the key room and hookshot up about three platforms. Backwalk so that Link grabs the ledge, move as close to the wall as you can, and then pull yourself up. Now place a bomb and use it to ledge clip OoB. Immediately after you've clipped and drop down onto the lower ledge. From here, backflip off the ledge and use the leaf to get under the second fan cage. Be careful not to fall too far or you will die.
Near Makar's cell, there are hookshot targets that are hookshottable while being at a 90° angle compared to them. By L-Sliding in the direction that makes that angle wider, you will end up OoB on top of the hookshot target. From there, you can maneuver OoB to skip the 2nd fan cage.
After you have obtained the hookshot, it is possible to clip out of bounds by backing up against a wall which has a hookshot target on it and hookshot the target at a specific angle. You can recognize the angle because the yellow target icon will be way to the right of the actual target on the wall.
Note: While still possible in SD, this trick is much harder compared to the HD version.
By grabbing the edge of the right side on any door frame in Wind Temple (with the exception of the Boss Door) you can simply do a Roll Clip due to how far in the wall Link is when he climbs up. The best doors to use for the specific purpose of skipping the 2nd fan cage are the miniboss door, and the door leading to the Spike Room. Be careful as to not hit the loading zone leading to the miniboss room if you chose the first option.
The room with the wall of wind gusts where you'd normally have to use Makar to plant a tree and then hookshot it, can be crossed without the aid of Makar. Jump into the wind gusts and pull out the deku leaf to get blown left and then right. As soon as you are in front of the platform, put away the deku leaf and hold forward on the control stick to grab the edge.
In the room before the boss door, you can skip pushing the blocks by putting on the iron boots and continuously sidehopping past the blade traps.
If you have chest storage and inconveniently fall into one of the gaps, you can still get out by timing any sort of jumps so that you get hit by the blade, which will damage boost you out of there.
Get next to the stone slab and sidle. Once Link is part way in the stone, stop sidling and roll until you are completely through. To get through with the fewest rolls possible, roll parallel to the stone.
If you managed to get all the way to the boss door with chest storage, then you can cimply roll into the right side of the door to clip through it and skip the boss key.
Make sure that you've called Tingle and diminish your health to 1/4 of a heart. Position yourself so that you're facing a bot right of the boss door. Now kill yourself and zombie hover up above the frame of the boss door and heal yourself with a red ting. You must be sure not to be too high above the door when you get healed, otherwise your sword will simply bounce off the wall and you'll miss the door frame altogether. Once you're on the door frame, walk to the end of one side (it doesn't matter which) until Link grabs the ledge. Now simply ledge clip off a bomb and jump into the loading zone.
If for one reason or another you don't have access to the Tingle Tuner, you can still preform this dungeon's boss key skip. To do this, pick up the middle pot on the right side of the room and break it near the boss door. Zombie hover above the door frame and make sure to stay low. If you're lucky, as the fairies ascend, one of them will heal you. From there, ledge clip through with a bomb to skip the boss key.
