Movement Speeds

Information

The following is a table of movements and their speed values in Ocarina of Time. Each movement type has a short acceleration delay, so most of the listed values are the maximum speed attainable. These values were found by observing the speed addresses in a memory viewer for each type of movement.

The speeds listed below represent the distance traveled every frame, at a rate of 20 frames per second. It's important to note that internally the game reports velocity as being 2/3rds slower than what is listed below; this is most likely due to the fact that the Zelda 64 engine was derived from the Super Mario 64 engine, which ran at 30 frames per second.

This is a list of all known and tested speed values. All values are for Adult Link, unless stated otherwise.

Movement Speeds (Ordered By Speed)
Movement TypeMovement Speed (units/frame)Notes
Supersliding/Hyper Extended Superslide27This is the fastest known method of travel
Epona: Sprinting20Decreases linearly to normal over 5 seconds.
Extended Superslide14---
Kokiri Boots: Backwalking/Rolling13.5This is the fastest normal method of movement as an adult.
Epona12-14Cycles between speeds over a period of time.
Sidehopping12.75Value is same regardless of boots or age.
Child Link: Backwalking/Rolling12.375---
Hover Boots: Backwalking/Rolling12.375Larger acceleration delays make this a non-preferred method of travel.
Constant Backflipping9Value is same regardless of boots or age.
Kokiri Boots: Walking9This is Link's standard movement speed.
Child Link: Walking8.25This is Child Link's standard movement speed.
Hover Boots: Walking8.25Larger acceleration delays make this a non-preferred method of travel.
