Common Wrong Warps

With so many different and hidden factors affecting wrong warps, it can be difficult to figure out what works and what doesn't. So, here's a list of some commonly used wrong warps. All successful wrong warps will award you the proper stone or medallion.

Important Note: Depending on the scene being wrong warped to, a wrong warp can crash or softlock based on the following:

  • The last cutscene to play that is of a specific type, or really, the value of the cutscene pointer which stores the memory address of the last cutscene that was played.
  • Any actions that occurred before the wrong warp is attempted that overwrite the memory where the last cutscene was stored.

A list of all scenes that are or are not affected by the last cutscene can be found here.

Below is a general list of guidelines for what does or doesn't count as a cutscene.

What counts:

  • The Title Screen cutscene, meaning that the cutscene pointer will always have a non-null value
  • Most any cutscene that starts when an area is entered/reloaded.
  • Warping via warp songs
  • Pulling the Master Sword
  • Various NPC interactions in the overworld (Talking to the Deku Tree, Goron Dancing, etc.)

What doesn't:

  • Mini cutscenes that play in dungeons (Crystal Switches for example)
  • Boss fight cutscenes
  • Tower Collapse/After Tower Collapse cutscenes.

List of Non-FW Wrong Warps from Dungeons

These are all the places that can be wrong warped to from dungeons without farore's wind. It is rare to have farore's wind in most categories, so some of these are more likely to be viable.

  • Death: Dodongo's Cavern
  • Leave Door: Ganon's Tower Collapse Interior
  • Duped trade item timer/void out/collapse timer: Shadow Temple Boss Room
  • Mushroom expire: Lost Woods (always crashes due to invalid cutscene)
  • Frog/Eye Drops Expire: Lon Lon Ranch (Epona's Song cutscene)

Dodongo's Cavern (cutscene 1)

  • Death: Gerudo Training Grounds
  • Leave Door: Know-it-all Brothers House
  • Duped trade item timer/void out/collapse timer: Deku Tree Boss Room
  • Mushroom expire: Lost Woods (always crashes due to invalid cutscene)

Fire Temple (cutscene 3)

  • Death: Forest Temple
  • Leave Door: Ganon's Tower Collapse Interior
  • Duped trade item timer/void out/collapse timer: Lake Hylia (always crashes due to invalid cutscene)
  • Mushroom expire: Lost Woods (always crashes due to invalid cutscene)
  • Frog/Eye Drops Expire: Lon Lon Ranch (Credits)

Jabu Jabu's Belly (cutscene 0)

  • Death: Jabu Jabu's Belly unused scene setup 0 with 39th HP (Ruto collects Sapphire cutscene)
  • Leave Door: Dodongo's Cavern Boss Room
  • Duped trade item timer/void out/collapse timer: Fire Temple Boss Room
  • Mushroom expire: Lost Woods (Fairy Ocarina cutscene)
  • Frog/Eye Drops Expire: Lon Lon Ranch (Horse Race)

Deku Tree - Ganondoor (Warp to Inside Tower Collapse)

It's possible to warp to the Inside the Tower Collapse area by opening the door back to the main dungeon on a particular frame on the blue warp timer. To be able to even reach the door back to the main dungeon, you must reload the boss room after defeating Gohma.

  • Hover off of Gohma to clip through the door, defeat her through the door, then simply exit and re-enter the room
  • Perform a double K.O. on Gohma to death warp
  • Play the sun's song after the fight
  • Savewarp

The disadvantage to simply savewarping is that you will lose the deku tree intro cutscene as your last cutscene. See the Previous Cutscene Notes below for more info.

Once you can reach the door, perform the "Ocarina Items" glitch on the very edge of the blue warp, then enter the door at the correct time to be warped into the Tower Collapse scene. A video will be put here eventually showing some common setups. For now, just check out the forums.

Wrong Warps to Tower Collapse are affected by the cutscene pointer.

Previous Cutscene Notes:

  • The Deku Tree intro cutscene is the most accessible cutscene that works for both Links. Furthermore, with this as your last cutscene, it is impossible for this particular wrong warp to crash or softlock. The only downside is that if you savewarp to reload the area, you will lose it as a last cutscene.
  • The title screen cutscene will softlock the game unless you "corrupt" the cutscene by pausing in certain areas. As an Child, pausing in Link's House is know to work in versions 1.0 and 1.2 fine. In v1.1 J, the game will crash and you should instead pause inside the House of Twins. In v1.1 U, the game will play a ~13 second cutscene then continue normally. As an Adult, you can just pause in Gohma's room.
  • Lastly, The Hyrule Field intro cutscene works fine as well, but is quite a bit out of the way.

These are the two most common setups for child Ganondoor:

Adult Ganondoor:

Deku Tree - Warp to Dodongo's Cavern (Death Warp)

It's possible to wrong warp to Dodongo's Cavern by dying. Have the proper position to place a bomb, roll, and backflip into the blue warp at the correct timing. Given the correct timing, low enough health, and waiting for your camera to snap back to you, press B to stop the ocarina and die. Once you continue you should be in Dodongo's Cavern. A video will be put here eventually showing some common setups. For now, just check out the forums.

Previous Cutscene Notes:

  • The Deku Tree introduction and Hyrule Field introduction cutscenes will work.
  • The title screen cutscene will softlock the game unless you "corrupt" the cutscene with a pause in certain areas. As an Adult, you can do this in Gohma's room, while as a child the closest place is in Link's house.

Deku Tree - Shadow Temple Boss Room (Trade Timer)

It's possible to warp to the Shadow Temple's Boss Room by getting trade item with a timer (eyeball frog for example), duplicating over it and letting the timer expire.

Previous Cutscene Notes:

  • The Deku Tree Intro and Title Intro cutscenes will NOT work
  • The cutscenes for playing the bolero and minuet songs work on versions 1.1 and 1.2
  • The forest temple completion cutscene works on version 1.0

Dodongo's Cavern Warp Notes

Dodongo's Cavern has two common wrong warps.

  1. Warp to the Gerudo Training Grounds on death
  2. Warp to the Deku Tree Boss Room by getting a trade item timer item, duping over it with a bottle, and letting the timer expire on the right frame.

Notice: attempting to warp to the above locations may result in a crash or soft-lock depending on what the cutscene pointer is pointed at. To avoid this, the last cutscene watched should be one of the following. Be aware that bombing the wall that opens Dodongo's Cavern will update the cutscene pointer (and count as your last cutscene).

  • Goron City Introduction
  • Death Mountain Trail Introduction
  • Title Screen Cutscene (adult only)

Dodongo's Cavern - Gerudo Training Grounds (Death Warp)

Have no more than half a heart, a bottled fish, and explosives. First, get in position next to the blue warp in such a way that you can place a bomb or drop a bombchu and then catch a fish. Once the fish is caught you must backflip onto the edge of the blue warp and perform the "Ocarina Items" glitch with the correct timing. Once the camera stops spinning you cancel the ocarina and then die. After continuing you should be in Gerudo's Training Grounds. To return to Dodongo's Cavern you must die and continue. Falling in the lava in the silver rupee room can result in warping to the infinite void back at Dodongo's Cavern.

Dodongo's Cavern - Deku Tree Boss Room (Trade Warp)

This wrong warp can be performed by allowing a trade timer to expire while the blue warp tries to start the cutscene.

Note: By performing the death wrong warp on this deku blue warp after performing the wrong warp from Dodongo's Cavern to Deku Tree Boss room, one is able to wrong warp to Gerudo Training Grounds.

Fire Temple

The Fire Temple has three useful wrong warps without Farore's wind.

  1. Warp to Forest upon death.
  2. Warp to credits by expiring the Eyeball Frog/Eye Drops timer.
  3. To the inside the Tower Collapse Map (Fire Ganondoor 1080)

Notice: attempting the warp to the above places can result in a soft-lock or crash depending on what the cutscene pointer is pointed at. This can be avoided by having the previous cutscene be either the title screen, or a warp song.

Fire Temple - Forest Temple (Death Warp)

Wrong warping to the Forest Temple is achieved by dying on a particular frame. This can be achieved a number of ways.

The most common setups start with "ocarina items" glitch into the blue warp after killing volvagia. This is followed by running in a direction (with our without a delay of some sort) off the platform, which stops the blue warp from updating the timer which pulls you to the next cutscene. An adjustment is done upon hitting the ground. All that is left is to die from the heat timer or the lava in the floor.

On death the camera rotates, allowing the blue warp continue updating the timer and eventually resulting in a wrong warp when the game continues. Examples of the common setups are shown below.

Fire Temple - Lon Lon Ranch Credits (Trade Timer)

Using the eyeball frog timer, you can wrong warp to Lon Lon Ranch, directly into to the credit sequence if the timer expires when the cutscene should start.

Fire Temple - Ganondoor (Inside Tower Collapse)

By entering the boss door loading zone at the correct time after performing ocarina items on the blue warp, one can wrong warp to the Ganon's Tower collapse map. This trick is commonly known as "1080" because the commonly used setup requires the use of a 1080 degree turn to enter the boss door loading zone.
